Healy Murphy was the first alternative center accredited in the State of Texas and has set the standard for other programs serving at risk youth.
Mission Statement
The mission of Healy-Murphy Center is to provide compassionate service to youth-in-crisis by focusing on individualized education in a non-traditional setting, early childhood development and essential support services.
Clients Served
- High school serves approximately 400 students per year
- Approximately 50% of our students are pregnant, parenting, or both
- Culturally diverse - 78% Hispanic, 18% African American, 4% Anglo
- Over 90% of students qualify for free or reduced meals under the National School Lunch Program
- Child development center serves approximately 200 infants and children per year
- Child development students are from four weeks to five years of age
- Children served are those of the high school students and others who live and work in the area

- Self-paced, alternative educational environment
- Accredited high school academic classes
- Reading enrichment program
- Electives and programs such as choir, music, drama, journalism, art, and photography
- Boys' basketball team and girls' volleyball team
- Parenting and childbirth classes
- Life skills classes and counseling
- GED classes
- Vocational counseling and job placement assistance
- Child development center
- Health clinic for pre- and post-natal exams and childhood immunizations, emergency services, health education and referral to health care services
Healy-Murphy Center serves the greater metropolitan San Antonio area. Our students come from all parts of San Antonio, representing every council and school district. Priority admission is given to pregnant and parenting students.
