Letter from the Principal
Hello from the Healy-Murphy High School Community,

The faculty and staff at Healy-Murphy are very proud of our remarkable students who come to us having chosen to continue their educational career at an alternative setting that better addresses their needs. Each year we are happy to celebrate with students, parents and friends the success of those students who have attained their goal of completing a high school diploma or GED. It is always the joyous culmination of another year of reaching out to young people who need a helping hand to find their way to lifelong learning and personal fulfillment.
During the school year, the HMC faculty and staff create a nurturing climate that enables students to overcome obstacles and get back on track toward self-reliability and responsibility. In addition to our two staff counselors working collaboratively with each student, many activities contribute to the inclusive atmosphere the students experience: Project HMC (community service activities); Student Council; Campus Clean-Ups; Cultural Heritage Day; Mothers of Pre-Schoolers (MOPS); Young Lives; support groups and life skills classes and many other student-centered programs. We are grateful to the many organizations and individuals who partner with us to make these services available.
While an overwhelming majority of new students score below-level on standardized testing, the classroom teachers work individually with students to build skills and competencies so that the choices and chances for these terrific young people expand and improve. Instruction is individualized and self-paced, making it possible for a student to earn credits at her/his own pace and make up time lost during previous academic experiences.
We are very proud of the HMC community and we appreciate your interest in our Program. We are grateful for the on-going support of many in the San Antonio community that helps us to continue our mission of helping at-promise young people. You are welcome to visit us on-line or in person.
Yours truly,
Janie Whiteley
Principal
