On Thursday, November 2, Healy-Murphy Center kicked off its $5 million capital campaign to create a next-generation child development center that sets the standard for caring for our community’s most vulnerable children.
At the event, the Sisters of the Holy Spirit and Mary immaculate presented the first major campaign gift of $1 million.
Healy-Murphy Center worked closely with nationally recognized, award-winning LPA Architects and community experts in early childhood education and pediatric health and wellness to develop the vision for the Child Development Center. From that visioning process came a plan that incorporates national best practices for the creation of a “child-family-teacher” friendly facility. Central to the design are flexible, “future-proof” spaces that can be adapted and upgraded as needs change in the long term. The naturally themed outdoor area will provide opportunities for children to play, explore, learn and grow, in both individual and group settings.
According to Douglas Watson, Healy-Murphy Executive Director, “The new child development center will allow us to grow and set new standards for the care and education of infants and toddlers for years to come.”
The kick-off celebration featured capital campaign chairperson Michael Black, COO of UT Health San Antonio, Rep. Barbara Gervin-Hawkins, and Councilman William “Cruz” Shaw.
